Best AI Models in IndiaFinance Workflows, Access and Costs (2026)

The best AI model for an Indian finance team is the one that completes its particular job accurately enough to review, at a cost the team can sustain. Start with the files, expected result and account permissions. A model ranking alone does not tell you whether a tool can open your workbook, preserve formulas or access your accounting system.

Reviewed 8 September 2026. This guide compares documented access and costs, then gives you a small evaluation you can repeat. It is not a recorded head-to-head model benchmark. For the flagship specifications and published benchmark caveats, see GPT-6 Astra vs Claude Fable 5.1.

Choose the tool by the work

Work to complete Start here Acceptance check
GST arithmetic, EMI or a tax estimate A calculator with a stated formula and applicable period Reproduce one calculation independently; check the legal scope
Explain a policy or draft a short email A free chat product available to your account Check the source and every factual statement
Clean monthly CSV exports A coding agent such as Codex or Claude Code with file tools Keep the script, input totals and exception list
Change an existing financial model A spreadsheet tool that can inspect and edit cells Change one assumption; confirm dependent formulas and charts respond
Search a large document pack A document-capable model and retrieval workflow Require document and page references; verify cited passages
High-volume invoice extraction A lower-cost API model tested on representative invoices Measure missing fields, wrong amounts and review time before scaling

Current models and API prices

API charges are separate from chat subscriptions. Prices below are US dollars per million tokens for standard fresh text input and output, before taxes, tools, cache charges and other fees. Image input and reasoning can change the number of billed tokens.

Model Input / output Cost condition to check
GPT-6 Astra $10 / $50 Requests over 272,000 input tokens increase input/cache rates to 2× and output to 1.5× for the whole request
Claude Fable 5.1 $10 / $50 $0.25 cache reads; 1M context at standard token rates
Claude Opus 5.5 $4 / $20 $0.20 cache reads; 1M context; released 22 September 2026
Claude Sonnet 5.5 $2 / $10 $0.10 cache reads since 7 October 2026 (was $0.20); 1M context; released 28 September 2026
Claude Haiku 5.5 $0.10 / $0.50 For prompts up to 100,000 tokens, five times that above; $0.01 cache reads; 1M context; released 7 October 2026
GPT-6 Sol $2 / $10 Requests over 272,000 input tokens raise input and cache rates to 2× and output to 1.5× for the whole request
Claude Sonnet 5 $2 / $10 Anthropic cancelled the previously scheduled September price rise
Gemini 3.8 Flash $0.75 / $3.75 Introductory rates through 31 December 2026; recheck before budgeting later periods

A cost example you can calculate yourself

Suppose a batch contains 100 documents, each using 2,000 input tokens and 300 output tokens. That is 0.2 million input and 0.03 million output tokens. With no caching or tool calls, the model charge is 0.2 × input rate + 0.03 × output rate.

  • Astra or Fable 5.1: $3.50.
  • Claude Opus 5.5: $1.40.
  • GPT-6 Sol: $0.70.
  • Sonnet 5: $0.70.
  • Claude Sonnet 5.5: $0.70.
  • Gemini 3.8 Flash at its introductory rate: $0.2625.
  • Claude Haiku 5.5: $0.035.

These are arithmetic examples, not measured bills or quality results. A cheap run that requires substantial correction can cost more overall. Add the reviewer minutes, retries and any missing documents to your comparison.

Run this small finance evaluation before upgrading

Create a fictional purchase invoice: invoice INV-101, taxable value ₹10,000, tax ₹1,800, total ₹11,800. Add a credit note CN-101 for ₹2,000 plus ₹360 tax. Leave the purchase-order number blank. Ask each tool to produce one row per document, preserve the negative credit-note sign and flag missing fields.

Expected controls: two documents; net taxable value ₹8,000; net tax ₹1,440; net payable ₹9,440; purchase-order number marked missing. A model fails this sample if it invents a PO number, drops the credit note or reports ₹14,160 by adding its magnitude.

Then repeat with the same permitted document sample, prompt, model version and effort setting. Record the date, correct fields, missed exceptions, time spent checking and total cost. This produces evidence for your workload. Re-run the sample when the model or input format changes.

What a paid subscription actually adds

A paid chat plan can add usage, tools and administration. It does not grant every model unlimited access. Fable 5.1 uses additional usage credits on Pro and standard Team seats; eligible Max and premium seats can use it within a shared weekly allowance. Read Anthropic’s plan-specific rules.

Codex is available across the ChatGPT plans listed in its current pricing documentation. Model availability, included usage and additional credits vary. Check your account’s model picker and billing page before purchasing for a particular model.

Check the Jio Google AI Pro offer in your own account

Jio advertises an 18-month Google AI Pro benefit for eligible adult SIM subscribers. Its terms include qualifying ₹349-plus unlimited-5G plans and a limited extension for qualifying ₹299-plus plans. Eligibility must remain active during the benefit. The exact offer available in MyJio controls whether you can claim it.

  1. Open MyJio with your eligible number and locate the offer.
  2. Read the eligibility, duration and ongoing recharge requirements.
  3. Choose the Google account that should receive the benefit.
  4. Complete activation and confirm the plan and expiry in that account.

Read Jio’s offer terms. This does not mean unlimited AI usage; Google’s product limits still apply. Do not switch mobile plans solely on an old screenshot or a headline.

Keep client-data permission separate from model choice

A desktop application can execute files locally while still sending prompts and selected file contents to a hosted model. Before using client books, check the product’s processing and retention terms, account settings and your firm’s permission to share the data. Use the fictional evaluation above to learn the workflow first.
